Vibe Coding: How It All Started — From Copilot to Replacing Devs

The transition didn't happen overnight. It started with simple autocomplete suggestions that felt almost magical. We used to write every boilerplate line ourselves, painstakingly setting up controllers, services, and models. Then came the first iteration of AI coding assistants.

At first, it was just "Hey, that's a neat trick." But slowly, the suggestions got better. They started understanding context across multiple files. We moved from writing code to reviewing code that the AI wrote for us.

The Shift in Paradigm

What we now call "Vibe Coding" is the natural evolution of this process. Instead of defining the strict structural logic, developers started defining the "vibe" — the desired outcome, the constraints, and the user experience — and letting the AI fill in the structural gaps.

  • Moving from imperative to declarative programming on a macro scale.
  • Focusing on architecture and user experience over syntax.
  • Rapid prototyping turning into rapid production deployment.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Are developers obsolete? Not exactly. The role of a developer has simply shifted from a bricklayer to an architect. The tools have changed, but the fundamental skill of solving complex problems remains the same.

Vibe coding isn't about replacing devs; it's about amplifying them to the point where a single developer can build what used to take an entire engineering team months to deliver.
